3 Houthi Missiles Targeting Saudi Arabia Foiled in Major Security Alert

Houthi missiles targeting Saudi Arabia were intercepted and destroyed as coalition forces responded to three ballistic missiles launched toward Khamis Mushait in the Kingdom’s southwestern Asir region, according to the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen.

The latest interceptions came amid heightened missile and drone activity affecting southern Saudi Arabia and an intensification of military operations inside Yemen.

Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said one ballistic missile heading toward Khamis Mushait was intercepted at around 3 a.m. on Friday, shortly after coalition forces had destroyed two other missiles targeting the same area. Reports also indicated that four Houthi drones were intercepted during the broader security operation.

Houthi Missiles Targeting Saudi Arabia Intercepted Over Khamis Mushait

The interception of the Houthi missiles targeting Saudi Arabia placed renewed attention on Khamis Mushait, a major city in the Asir region close to the Kingdom’s southern frontier.

Saudi authorities have faced a series of missile, drone and projectile incidents during the recent escalation. The coalition said its air-defense systems successfully detected and destroyed the three ballistic missiles before they could reach their intended target.

The incidents followed other recent interceptions over southern Saudi territory. Arab News has separately reported that Saudi defenses intercepted additional ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis during the latest period of heightened hostilities.

No casualties from the three missiles targeting Khamis Mushait were reported in the coalition statement.

Houthi Projectile Damages School in Najran

In a separate incident on Friday, Saudi Civil Defense said a Houthi projectile struck a school in Najran, another region in southern Saudi Arabia near the border with Yemen.

Authorities reported material damage to the school but said no casualties occurred.

The Najran incident, together with the Houthi missiles targeting Saudi Arabia, highlights the continuing security challenges facing communities in the Kingdom’s southern regions as the conflict involving the Houthis intensifies.

Saudi authorities and coalition forces have repeatedly said defensive systems are being deployed to counter missiles, drones and other projectiles launched toward populated areas and infrastructure.

Yemeni Forces Report 474 Operations Against Houthi Positions

At the same time, Yemen’s government-aligned armed forces said they conducted 474 airstrikes and precision targeting operations against Houthi positions, movements, reinforcements and military capabilities during the previous 24 hours.

According to the Yemeni military statement, the operations involved warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles and rocket launchers.

The reported strikes covered several fronts, including areas south of Haradh as well as locations in Taiz, Marib, Al-Bayda, Lahj, Sanaa, Saada and coastal areas.

Yemeni forces said operations were particularly concentrated around Taiz, where they targeted Houthi gatherings, reinforcements, command-and-control facilities and other military positions.

The Yemeni military claimed that 1,540 Houthi personnel were killed or wounded during the operations and that 216 military vehicles and other assets were destroyed or disabled. These casualty and equipment-loss figures were claims made by the Yemeni armed forces and have not been independently verified.

Regional Security Concerns Rise

The latest Houthi missiles targeting Saudi Arabia come amid a broader escalation affecting security across Yemen and parts of the Arabian Peninsula.

Southern Saudi regions including Asir, Najran and Jazan have experienced missile, drone or projectile incidents during different stages of the conflict. In a separate incident reported in Jazan in September, two people were injured and a mosque, buildings and vehicles were damaged after a projectile launched by the Houthis struck Al-Tuwal governorate.

The interception of the three missiles over Khamis Mushait underscores the continuing role of air-defense systems as Saudi Arabia seeks to protect populated areas from cross-border attacks.

Coalition officials have maintained that operations will continue to counter threats originating from Houthi-controlled territory, while Yemen’s government-aligned forces say they will continue military operations aimed at restoring state authority.

With missile and drone activity continuing alongside intensified fighting inside Yemen, the security situation along the Saudi-Yemeni frontier remains closely watched.
